The rapprochement process between Moldova and Romania has already entered the practical realm thanks to joint infrastructure and energy projects.

Globalinfo.Az reports that this was stated by Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi on air on the TVR Moldova television channel.

According to him, the process of unification of the two countries is already de facto under way.

“One must understand that this process is already under way. A unification highway is being built, bridges are being erected over the Prut River, and energy links and other infrastructure projects are pragmatically bringing the two banks of the river closer together,” Popsoi noted.

The minister said Moldovan society has traditionally been somewhat open to the idea of unification with Romania. In his view, the implementation of concrete joint projects can convince citizens of the benefits of such a step more effectively than political statements.

At the same time, Popsoi did not announce any date for the possible unification of the two states.

Note that under Moldova’s Constitution, the country retains neutral state status. Nevertheless, since 2022 Chisinau has stepped up its policy of rapprochement with the European Union and Romania. In 2023, Moldova’s parliament approved enshrining the name of the state language as “Romanian language” in legislative and regulatory documents.
