After the Democrats’ big victory in the US elections and their capture of the majority in Congress, the likelihood of a war against Iran is said to have weakened. According to experts, the American people’s support for the Democrats is an indication of a sharp backlash against the Iran policy of President Donald Trump and the Republicans.

Thus, the Democrats are expected to block military initiatives involving an attack on Iran.

So has Trump’s plan to attack Iran failed? Will the US no longer carry out a military operation against Tehran, or, on the contrary, could a larger-scale war break out?

Globalinfo.az was told by Elkhan Shahinoglu, head of the Atlas Research Center and political analyst, that the Democrats’ victory in Congress and their gain of the upper hand in both the Senate and the House of Representatives could affect Trump’s decisions:

“It will become harder for Trump to decide on his own and wage a war against Iran. This does not mean there will be no strikes. The US is striking Iran right now. A few days ago some Iranian islands were targeted. But I do not think large-scale strikes will be carried out.

Also because in two wars Trump failed to achieve the result he wanted. He said they had prevented Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, but that is doubtful. Besides, the regime in Iran did not collapse either. So who can guarantee that the desired result will be achieved after a third war?

If that were possible, energy prices would normalise and Trump’s ratings would rise as well.

Therefore I do not think Trump is considering waging war. This could also affect future elections. Even if Vice President James David Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio lay claim to a presidential nomination, their positions could weaken too.”
