“In 2025, 288 579 German citizens left Germany. This is the highest figure recorded during the entire period of statistical observations.”
Globalinfo.az reports that Izvestia wrote this, citing data from Germany’s Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
“Germans most often chose Switzerland, Austria and Spain as destinations for relocation. Around two-thirds of those leaving the country are aged between 25 and 40. Three out of every four have higher education or vocational qualifications. At the same time, 191 890 people arrived in Germany during the year,” it said.
According to the agency, the previous record was registered in 2016.
That year, 281 411 German citizens left the country.
The author of the publication cited dissatisfaction with the economic situation — rising unemployment, high taxes and social insurance contributions, and the mismatch between the quality of services provided and these costs — as well as the authorities’ political course among the reasons for the population outflow.
In particular, Berlin’s spending of large sums to support the authorities in Ukraine is also cited as one of the reasons for dissatisfaction.
Earlier, Germany proposed increasing benefits paid to migrants for returning to their home countries.
