Turkish counter-admiral and military expert Cihat Yaycı has protested against the campaigns being waged against Azerbaijan in Turkey.

Globalinfo.az reports that, speaking on air on GZT, he described the criticism of Azerbaijan over its relations with Israel as a double standard.

Yaycı said that if it is considered normal to criticise Azerbaijan over its relations with Israel, and President Ilham Aliyev over his relations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the president of that country, then the same stance should be taken against the United States and Donald Trump.

“Who is Israel’s biggest supporter? The United States of America. And who is Netanyahu‘s biggest supporter? Trump. Why is no such campaign being launched against Trump in Turkey? Why is Trump not targeted, while Aliyev is targeted?” he said.

Yaycı also compared the debates in Turkey over the headscarf issue with Greece’s treatment of the Turkish community in Western Thrace.

He noted that, on the closure of mosques in Western Thrace and the arrest of elected muftis and those who support them, no similar protest is being voiced against Greece and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“So why are there no calls to cut relations with Greece? They say it is our neighbour. Those who avoid calling Azerbaijan a brother are perfectly able to call Greece a neighbour,” the expert stressed.

Yaycı said that it would be a wrong policy for Turkey to lose Azerbaijan during this period.
