Armenian Security Council Secretary Alen Simonyan spoke about the importance of normalising relations with Turkey.
Globalinfo.az reports that, according to him, Armenia’s security must be ensured not only by military force, but also by eliminating the risks of war and building economic ties with its neighbours.
Questioning the possibility of a war with Turkey, Simonyan stressed that the idea instilled in Armenians over 70 years — “either we cling to Russia, or the Turks will destroy us” — does not reflect reality.
Touching on the TRIPP project, the Armenian official placed particular emphasis on its economic and diplomatic significance.
He stated that the Armenian-American economic project will run approximately 15 metres from the Iranian border, and its significance should be assessed in terms of the interests not only of Armenia, but also of the United States, Iran and the region as a whole.
