Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan has spoken about the visit of Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmat Hajiyev to Armenia.
Globalinfo.az reports that MP Kristine Vardanyan put the question to the minister in the Armenian parliament during preliminary discussions of the 2027 state budget.
“What urgent need had arisen for Hikmat Hajiyev to visit Armenia a week after the elections?” Vardanyan asked.
In response, A. Mirzoyan said:
“Because at that time mutual visits were taking place between civil societies, between deputy prime ministers, between expert groups and between the secretaries of the security councils”.
Note that Hikmat Hajiyev met Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, in Dilijan on 14 June 2026. The meeting took place exactly one week after Armenia’s parliamentary elections. An official statement said the sides discussed strengthening mutual trust between the civil societies of the two countries.
