A crushing victory for the Democrats in the United States and the weakening of President Donald Trump’s positions have alarmed the Armenian authorities.

Globalinfo.az reports that this is stated in an article by “Hraparak”.

The publication writes that the Armenian government is deeply concerned by the defeat of President Donald Trump’s party. It is believed that the Democrats’ gain of the upper hand in Congress and the weakening of Trump’s powers will damage U.S.-Armenian cooperation. There are particular fears that implementation of the TRIPP project (the Zangezur corridor — ed.) will be cancelled once and for all.

According to the information, the previous day U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Yerevan David Allen was invited to the Armenian parliament. There the deputies conveyed Yerevan’s concern to Allen and asked for it to be resolved.

After this meeting, a statement posted on the parliament’s official website also mentions TRIPP. It stresses that the importance of implementing the project was specifically noted at the meeting.
