Yemen’s Houthi movement has demanded $51 billion in compensation from Saudi Arabia as a condition for halting military operations.
Globalinfo.az reports that The Wall Street Journal published the information.
Houthi representatives said the sum should compensate for the damage caused by years of airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition and the economic blockade of Yemen.
In addition, the Houthis demand that Riyadh formally recognise them as the country’s legitimate authority.
The publication notes that the demands were put forward after a series of Houthi attacks on Saudi-owned oil tankers in the Red Sea and the movement’s seizure of control over areas around the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait.
