A person who tried to buy a ticket for the ‘Sabah‘ – ‘Barcelona’ match via TikTok has fallen victim to fraud. It is reported that fraudsters posing as ticket sellers on social media are withdrawing money from people’s bank cards. One of the victims said that 220 manats were withdrawn from his card in just one minute. Complaints about this kind of fraud through social media have been increasing recently.
How can citizens protect their card information? Is it possible to recover money lost as a result of fraud?
Bunyad Habibov, director of IT Station LLC and a cybersecurity expert, told Globalinfo.az that it is wrong to trust TikTok, Instagram and other unofficial pages when buying tickets:
“Tickets should only be bought from official sales platforms. You should never give your bank card details, especially the CVV code and the confirmation codes sent to your phone, to people you don’t know. In such cases, fraudsters exploit people’s interest in events and spread fake ticket advertisements. When people try to buy tickets, they provide their card details, and as a result money is withdrawn from their accounts.”
According to the expert, official ticket sales platforms should lower the limit on the maximum number of tickets one person can buy:
“Especially during football matches and other events with high demand, some people buy large numbers of tickets and later resell them at higher prices. This both reduces ticket availability and pushes people toward unofficial sales pages.
Another important issue is people’s awareness of digital security. The confirmation code sent to your phone during an online payment should never be shared with anyone. In addition, requiring 3D Secure confirmation can increase the security of a payment, but this does not mean complete protection from all forms of fraud.”

B. Habibov noted that in the 21st century, fraudsters carry out their schemes over the internet without ever meeting their victims face to face:
“That is why I urge everyone to be careful, not to trust suspicious advertisements, and to buy tickets only from official platforms. If money is withdrawn from your card without your knowledge, you should immediately contact your bank to block the card, report the transaction, and apply for a refund.”
