The National Cyber Security Agency has warned users about a security flaw discovered in Apple products. It said scammers exploiting this flaw could seize devices running the iOS operating system in Azerbaijan.
What security measures should iPhone users follow to prevent such cases? What should those who have already faced such a situation do to protect their devices and personal data?
Eshgin Nurushov, chief technology officer at ITStation, told Globalinfo.az that iPhone users must first of all keep the software on their devices constantly updated:
“Because when Apple detects security flaws, it regularly releases updates to eliminate them. Users should check in the phone’s settings section whether the latest version of iOS is installed. Following links from unknown people, downloading suspicious files and visiting untrusted websites can pose a serious threat. Particular attention should be paid to fake links sent via messages and email. The Apple ID password must be complex and two-factor authentication must be enabled. Users must not share their passwords, verification codes or other personal data with anyone. It is also recommended to download apps only from the official App Store platform and not to install software from unknown sources.”

The expert said that if a person suspects their phone has been compromised, they should temporarily disconnect the device from the internet and start taking security measures:
“They should change the Apple ID password from another trusted device and check for unknown devices connected to the account. Suspicious apps and profiles should be deleted, and a security check of bank accounts and other sensitive data should be carried out. If there is a possibility that banking data has been compromised, they should immediately contact the bank and request that the cards be temporarily blocked. If doubts remain about spyware or malicious interference on the device, they should consult a specialist and, if necessary, reset the phone to factory settings. The main thing is that in such cases users must act without delay and check all their accounts to ensure the security of their personal data.”
