Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has made a noteworthy statement about the formation of Armenian national identity.
Globalinfo.az reports that he spoke about this during his address at the “World Armenian Summit 2026”.
Pashinyan said that Armenians existed before 301 as well.
“Before 301, were we Armenians or not? It is clear that at that time Christianity did not have the status of a state religion, and the Armenian alphabet and church did not yet exist. So at what cost were we Armenians? The answer is obvious. We derived our identity from our kings. Why were we called Armenians in the 1st century BC? Because our kings were Armenians. Therefore, this proves the thesis that our state is our identity, and our identity is our state. This is a proposition of fundamental importance for our future thinking and activities,” Pashinyan said.
