The Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, has refused to agree with the country’s political leadership’s order to carry out a strike that could lead to the resumption of direct military operations with Iran.

Globalinfo.az reports that Israel’s Channel 12 released this information citing sources.

It was reported that Eyal Zamir demanded additional consultations and refused to carry out the order until the political leadership, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, presented a legal justification in the form of a written document and signed it.

“This step, the details of which have not been disclosed, could immediately lead to a large-scale conflict due to a miscalculation of the situation. The army command is concerned that the Iran issue may be used for pre-election propaganda purposes,” one of the channel’s military sources said.

It should be noted that in recent days a number of Western media outlets have reported that the United States and Israeli authorities are discussing the possibility of launching new strikes against Iran. According to reports, Benjamin Netanyahu is insisting that the military operation be carried out before the Knesset elections scheduled for October 27.
