A castle in southeastern Germany dating back about 800 years has been put up for sale for 1 euro (2 manats).

Globalinfo.az reports, citing the newspaper Bild, which in turn cites the local administration, that the castle in question is Schnaditz Castle in the state of Saxony.

The castle has a knights’ hall and two towers. The total area of the land plot is slightly more than 1000 square metres. Every square metre of the park adjoining the castle has been put up for sale at 60 euros.

Local district chief Matthias Mith said that although the building is currently unusable, its main structure remains intact. The castle’s roof has also kept its appearance.

According to him, the main aim of the sale is to find an investor who can restore the building and convert it into a hotel, an education centre or another state institution.

However, since the castle holds the status of a historical monument, any restoration and reconstruction work there must be approved by the relevant authorities. Matthias Mith noted that because of the strict oversight, the restoration process could take months or even years.
