Nigar Jamal, winner of Eurovision 2011, has commented on discussions over a unified school uniform.

Globalinfo.az reports that the singer shared a post on the issue on her social media account.

In her post, the singer called on people not to fall for provocations and to preserve national unity. Nigar said that a unified school uniform does not mean being deprived of religious beliefs:

“Rules concerning the unified school clothing introduced by the state must not be interpreted differently to divide the nation into two parts. Do not allow provocations or other countries to interfere in our domestic policy. We won the Patriotic War through our unity; do not harm this integrity. Because a unified school uniform does not take away your religion or your faith, dear children, dear education workers… Continue to pray, continue to know your God. But do not sacrifice your country, your homeland, to the political provocation of some Sharia state.

It is not the state that keeps girls at the school gates, but parents who make their underage daughters wear hijabs for the sake of their own principles. It is parents who put pressure on them. Do not fall for the provocations of people who exploit your vulnerability.

We support the unified school uniform to the end for a clear and bright future! We stand by our state and our President!

Every fellow artist who loves their country and homeland should join this call.”
