“Information has circulated in the Greek press about the existence of a scenario for a preemptive strike against Turkey. They openly state that they pose a threat to Turkey. They say they have received intelligence that Turkey is moving its military forces to Western Anatolia, but Turkey has not taken such a step. Nevertheless, Greece has deployed weapons and troops on 23 islands that have no military status and is not complying with the agreement.”

Globalinfo.az reports that these words were spoken by Turkish retired rear admiral Prof. Dr. Cihat Yaycı on the “Xəritə” programme, presented by GZT editor-in-chief Doğukan Gezer.

He said that Greece, should it attack, has already positioned air defence systems there to repel Turkey’s strike:

“They say that ‘they will not be able to raise their heads.’ They threaten us with strikes on the Çanakkale bridge, the Bosphorus bridges in Istanbul and so on. This is not simply a newspaper’s commentary, this is actually their plan.”

The expert said that in such cases the first strike is very important:

“If war is inevitable, you must strike first. I am not saying this to belittle Greece, but from a realpolitik standpoint it must assess its capabilities correctly. It says that within 24 hours the great powers will intervene. Once you strike, who can stop the Turkish Armed Forces? No one mediated in Syria, Iran or Ukraine. You cannot take on Turkey. Turkey would immediately seize the islands of Lesbos, Chios, Samos, Kos, Rhodes and Sönbeki. They say Israel will help. No one can help. Even if they did help, what strength do they have? At present there is no state capable of standing up to the Republic of Turkey. In the last 40 years there have been about 30 wars around Turkey. Not one of them spread to Turkey. Because the state is strong, the army is strong. Greece buys its ships and aircraft abroad. Even if it attacks, there are very many people inside Greece from whom Turkey can gather intelligence. Turkey will be informed in advance.”
