A new investigation into an object believed to be the wreckage of the plane of famous American pilot Amelia Earhart, who disappeared in 1937, has failed to produce the expected result.

Globalinfo.az reports that the BBC published the information.

Researchers travelled to Nikumaroro Island, which belongs to Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean, to examine the object recorded in satellite imagery in 2020. However, it was found to be a pile of trees.

When they arrived at the site, they saw that most of the object had broken apart and washed into the water, with only a section resembling the letter Y remaining.

Project leader Rick Pettigrew, commenting on the findings, said the mystery surrounding Earhart’s disappearance remains unsolved: “This mystery has continued for 90 years.”

According to Rick, the island keeps its secrets and someone may find conclusive evidence there in the future.
