Azerbaijan saw hot weather uncharacteristic of the autumn season in September and October. But the weather has already changed: it is raining in Baku and snowing in some districts. A sharp change in temperature over a short period creates certain risks for human health.

What should the public pay attention to?

Functional medicine specialist and therapist Sevinc Musayeva told Globalinfo.az that elderly people, children and those suffering from asthma and other respiratory diseases should be especially careful:

“People with cardiovascular diseases are also sensitive to temperature changes. Cold and humid weather can increase joint pain in some people. Seasonal respiratory infections spread more widely during this period.”

The therapist said people should dress according to the weather and protect themselves from the cold, especially in the morning and evening hours:

“In rainy weather, one should avoid staying in wet clothes for a long time. It is also important to watch one’s diet, drink enough water and keep a regular sleep schedule. People with chronic diseases should continue the treatment prescribed by their doctor. In addition, reducing close contact with sick people and washing hands regularly help protect against infections. Particular attention should be paid to ensuring that children and the elderly dress according to the weather. When symptoms of any illness appear, it is advisable to consult a doctor instead of taking medication on one’s own. And in the case of serious symptoms such as high fever, shortness of breath or chest pain, medical help should be sought without delay.”
