A dangerous trend called “bonesmashing” is spreading among young people in Russia, aimed at achieving more prominent cheekbones and sharper facial features.

Globalinfo.az reports that Russian media have published information about this.

According to the claims, this method, used mainly by people aged 15–26, involves striking the face with a hammer in order to change the shape of the facial bones.

Reports claim that more than 100 people have been injured as a result of this dangerous practice. It is also reported that among the victims are those who have faced bleeding and loss of sensation.

Experts note that striking the facial bones does not guarantee that they will change into the desired shape or change safely.

On the contrary, such interventions can cause fractures, nerve damage, trauma to soft tissues and long-term health problems.

It should be noted that “bonesmashing” is known as one of the dangerous internet trends on social media aimed at changing appearance. However, the figures circulating about the number of injured people in Russia must be confirmed by independent sources.
