A senior United Kingdom defence official, Wes Streeting, has issued a serious warning about the country’s military security.
Globalinfo.az reports that he wrote about this in an article published in The Daily Telegraph.
He said that the United Kingdom must be ready for military confrontations and a large-scale war within the next 1000 days.
Streeting noted that the country’s potential adversaries are building up their military capabilities at an extremely fast pace:
“By 2030, the size of their armed forces and the scale of their war economies could allow them to launch offensive operations,” he said.
The defence official stressed that the threat comes not only from conventional military forces, such as Russian tanks, but also from cyberattacks, sabotage and state terrorism, calling for preventive measures to be taken.
It should be noted that earlier Andy Burnham’s office launched the “Prepare” campaign, urging citizens to be ready for emergencies that hostile states could create.
As part of the campaign, residents were advised to stock up on a three-day supply of food and water, a first aid kit, medicines, a flashlight and a battery-powered FM radio. Wes Streeting explained that these measures are necessary to counter terrorist threats from Russia and other hostile forces.
Analysts, however, believe that such statements by Western officials are aimed at mobilizing society around the “Russian threat” narrative.
